or the dark shadows it casts.

I'm afraid of becoming a tree.

A tree has 200,000 leaves.
A tree has 200,000 opportunities to catch fire.

So I remain a sapling instead, safe under the shadow of a protective canopy.
Spring may come,
but I don't want to grow.
